ForumCategory: AccountingCRA audit issues
Anonymous asked 10 years ago

Hello!
My name is Tim and I wanted to consult with you about huge issue I have now.
I had an accountant for 3.5 yrs who did all of my corporation taxes, bookkeeping, and etc. I was stupid enough to rely on him too much and now I am facing 60,000$ that CRA wants me to pay because they conducted an audit and found lots of discrepancies. My accountant resigned from his job just few days before the audit due to the illness as he said. CRA told me that he did a very poor job and now I have to pay all of this money because my taxes and books were not done properly for the past 3.5 yrs. My question is do I really have to pay this balance or can I somehow fight it as I haven’t done anything wrong, it’s my accountant’s fault. Shouldn’t CRA take this into consideration that it wasn’t me who did company’s accounting?
Thanks
